  1. Great video Derek, as always. Sauces are the key! Here’s one I improvised last night:

    3 tbsp tahini
    1/4 cup water
    1 tbsp mustard
    1 medjool date
    1 tbsp apple cider vinegar
    1/2 tsp smoked paprika
    1/2 tsp chili powder
    1/2 tsp cayenne pepper
    1/4 tsp onion powder
    1/4 tsp garlic powder

    Goes great with your black bean mixup

  3. I just started eating cleaner and I find what I need/miss the most is just something creamy and flavorful to pull it all together. I've been making a hummus sauce with 1 can chickpeas, tsp miso paste, little lemon, bit of tahini, and some parsley and smoked paprika and bit of extra water to thin it out. You can garlic to it and its be good but I'm aiming for lower fodmap.

My father also passed away today and I’m 16 and I’m so lost and don’t know what to do, if there is something you could say, it would mean a lot. I’m vegan and so was my father and you were such a huge influence on me because you were so positive and vivacious, and I started eating healthier because of you. If you see this and have some advice it would mean a lot to me. Thanks.

  5. Derek-inspired improvised cheezy sauce:

    Small amount of water
    Tahini +
    Some dijon(or other mustard)
    garlic powder
    Nutritional yeast +
    Alternatively pepper + some green herb should work well, thyme perhaps.

    I mixed that with macaronies… definitely not my proudest moment.
    The cheezy ingredients are the tahini and nutritional yeast so definitely take a lot of that less of the water.

  8. I couldn't agree more that sauces are incredibly important to amp up flavor and have variety in a meal. I have three go to's mostly because all of the ingredients are pantry staples:

    1- Peanut butter, soy sauce, chili-garlic paste, sesame oil, (warm water to dilute peanut butter)
    2- Tahini, lemon, zaatar, salt, pepper, cayenne, (warm water to dilute tahini)
    3- Olive oil, spicy brown mustard (or dijon), red wine vinegar, salt, pepper

  9. I've gotten inspirations from your dressings, so lately I've Come UP with my own.
    In my stir fries i always use a can of chickpeas, half in the fry and rest in the blender, along with White pepper, black pepper, garlic and onion powder and some nutritional yeast, its super good and a real game changer.
    Edit: also a splash of water. 😁

    1 cup of soak cashews or almonds
    1 tbs lemon juice
    Black pepper
    1 ts salt
    1 ts minced ginger
    1/2 cup of fresh basil

  14. Quick question: do sesame seeds require grinding to be absorbed, or can they be eaten as they are and still get digested for their nutrients? Have read that if not grinded they pass through you undigested

  16. I hate the texture of bell peppers and tomatoes, so I roast a bell pepper, jalapeno, and tomatoes and blend those up with some spices. LITERALLY all time favorite!

    1 tablespoon nooch
    1 tablespoon tamari
    1 tablespoon maple syrup
    1/2 tablespoon mustard
    1/2 tablespoon tahini
    A pinch of pepper
    1 tsp cumin

    1 1/2 cups (225 g) raw cashews, soaked

    3/4 cup (190 mL) water

    2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice

    2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar

    Scant 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
